Fish Fry Fellowship & Fun for a Fabulous Cause

I am blessed to call Little Rock home and feel strongly about giving back to this community that has given so much to my family and me. One of my favorite events for which I volunteer is the Camp Aldersgate Fish Fry. Since 2019, I have volunteered in several different capacities. This year—on the 40th anniversary of the Fish Fry—I serve as its volunteer recruiter/coordinator.
You meet the most kind and generous people volunteering at the Fish Fry. Whether they are frying up fish, assembling and handing out meals, driving shuttle buses, painting faces, or baiting hooks for the fishing derby, every volunteer has a smile on their face and compassion in their hearts. I have made all sorts of friends there, and I look forward to seeing them each year. And when friends get together, they have fun, which is contagious and makes the event even more special for the volunteers and for the families who attend.
Most importantly, the Fish Fry supports a fabulous cause—Camp Aldersgate’s mission of providing camping experiences for children with special needs. At camp, the children are given the opportunity to engage in activities like swimming, archery, ziplining, canoeing, arts and crafts, and they get to spend the night with their friends in cabins. It is a chance for these kids to be kids.
This summer, I witnessed campers having the time of their lives up in the air on the zipline. I was amazed at the dedication of the counselors who safely hoisted campers in wheelchairs up in the trees. But I also noticed the group of campers on the ground waiting their turn for the zipline. They, along with their counselors, were singing, dancing, and telling stories. I could see from the smiles, and I could hear from the laughter that the campers were having the time of their lives. I saw first-hand how this program transforms the lives of children in our community. We are extremely lucky to have Camp Aldersgate, and it is my privilege to serve it.
