Tell us a little bit about yourself
My long-term career goal is to become a Physician Assistant! Being a camp counselor is my absolute favorite job, but my job at Arkansas Children’s Northwest is a very close second! Outside of school and work, I love to play pickleball with my friends and run on all of the awesome NWA trails!
How has being a counselor impacted your personal and professional growth?
Being a camp counselor has provided me with so much knowledge about various medical conditions along with the hands-on skills needed to take care of people with these diagnoses. This experience has undoubtedly set me up to excel in my career, but has made an even greater personal impact. I have become a stronger leader and communicator, a more empathetic and patient friend, and have even gained a better perspective on life.
What is your favorite camp tradition?
My favorite camp activity is the talent show! It allows our campers a chance to showcase their talents and interests in a supportive and judgment-free environment. It is always a night filled with high energy, laughs, and smiles!
What are you looking forward to the most this summer?
I absolutely loved being a camp counselor, and will definitely miss being in the cabin, but I am more than excited for my new role as supervisor. This role is going to give me an opportunity to lead in a different way, and share my knowledge and experiences with our new counselors and counselors-in-training. I am looking forward to being able to support our staff in a new way, and also excited to get to interact with more campers outside of just one cabin.
What advice would you give to college students considering applying for a camp counselor position?
Take the chance and apply! It will be a decision that you will not regret. Not only has it made me a better person, but it has provided me with countless skills that will help me succeed in my career. If you are even slightly interested in special education or any health care profession, this is the perfect job for you! Even if you aren’t interested in those career paths, camp has something for everyone!
